Cognitivism Learning Scenario

For a short period in my life, I was a motorcycle instructor teaching new riders how to ride a motorcycle before they could progress to obtaining a license. Although very rewarding, it was very challenging (and sometimes dangerous!).

Some students would come with some previous experience in riding a motorcycle, some just came because their friends were getting their license.

The course was designed based on sequencing and built up to the student eventually controlling the motorcycle with the engine running (when things could go terribly wrong). Key words were used to reinforce the learning and provide a means for the student to demonstrate their understanding.

Connectivism Learning Scenario

A personal experience has come recently where I wanted to know more about Experience API (xAPI). It took many hours of research to understand the theory behind the standard and then many more hours developing the code to put the theory into practice.

During the learning process, I started to link how the standard that is xAPI could be used beyond just a learning management system. It was when I started making the links that everything just fell into place.
